Finally Upgraded My Body

After roughly four years of service from my Nikon D80, I’ve finally upgraded to a new D7200. The specifications completely blow my previous body out of the water. I’ve mostly been messing around with it so far.

The D7200 is phenomenal in low light. I took it downtown and shot entirely without a flash. Where the D80’s ISO would become too grainy to be of any real use after about 800, but the newer model still looks solid well beyond 6400.

The Flat Tire

Since I got my new bike, I’ve been tracking my rides with the goal of reaching 100 miles before the end of the month. But, it seems that I have been punished for my hubris. As I was peddling down a well-trafficked road, my bike got a flat, and I was forced to walk it home. But, if you follow this site, you won’t be surprised that it takes more than a flat tire to stop me from shooting.

Returning To Twin Lakes

I had more yard work to do, but I brought my DSLR this this time so I don’t have to rely on my camera phone. I lucked out, since the birds were feeling friendly. Normally they hang back at the tops of trees and close to the water, but today they stuck close enough to the road that I could get clear shots with my 24-70mm and 50mm.

Of course, I shot more than just the red-winged black birds.

I once again find that, between news freelancing, wedding photography, and personal projects, I am shooting faster than I can edit. I’m steadily attacking the backlog between more shooting, landscaping, and planning my own wedding, but time is still tight. So, until I get the meatier posts up, enjoy this flower photo I shot on the side during an engagement shoot.

Vignette Magnolia

Spring means lots of flower pictures. Are you guys sick of these yet? My latest contribution to this field of fluff art is a shot of magnolias during sunset, and balanced out with an off-camera flash. Then, I threw a vignette on it in PS and bumped up the saturation a bit.
